Africa-Press – Namibia. THE National Housing Enterprise (NHE) has sponsored top performing students studying rural and regional development planning at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust)

This was revealed in a statement issued yesterday by NHE communications manager Tuafi Shafombabi.

The sponsorship, valued at N$10 000, was pledged to the top performers at the Nust 2022 academic awards.

This forms part of an agreement between the NHE and Nust.

“The purpose of this agreement is to give internship opportunities to students in the fields of urban and rural development, give graduates in-training exposure in the fields of architecture and reward top performers in the first, second, third and fourth year of their studies,” reads the statement.

NHE acting executive for human capital and strategy Dapewa Walther said the initiative helps to ensure a better skilled workforce for the benefit of the Namibian society

The internship opportunities, awarded for a three-month period, seek to expose students to real work situations. In turn, the NHE hopes to help address the shortage of skilled workers within the construction sector, and invest in the capacity building and skills development of the Namibian child.

The best first year student in the regional and rural development programme, Yapeni Nghiteeka, considers herself fortunate to have received the generous sponsorship, and pledged to continue working hard.
