Africa-Press – Namibia. Former president Hifikepunye Pohamba and patron of the Nkurenkuru Expo says the event has become a key platform for Kavango West’s residents to showcase their products, innovations, culture and entrepreneurial spirit.
The expo that started last Friday concludes on Sunday.
Pohamba, in a statement read on his behalf, urged all stakeholders to continue supporting the Nkurenkuru.
“To the entrepreneurs, innovators, traders and producers who are participating here today, I want to say congratulations and well done! Your hard work, discipline, perseverance, and creativity are the foundation upon which the future of Kavango West will be constructed. To the youth and the women: your roles in developing this region are indispensable. ‘Embrace education, learn skills, pursue opportunities, and become the leaders and innovators we need for a thriving future,’’ he said.
Moving forward, he urged all to use platforms like the Nkurenkuru Expo to connect, collaborate and grow together.
“We must leverage this opportunity to raise the standard of living for all, conquer poverty, create employment, empower generations to come, and transform this region into a thriving centre of commerce, education, tourism, and culture,” Pohamba said.
The expo also provides a unique platform, a space where businesses from all sectors, large and small, come together to connect, collaborate, innovate and find new opportunities to grow and flourish, he said.
“It is a place where traditions blend with modern enterprise; where the rich resources of Kavango West – its forests, rivers, land, human capital, and rich culture – are put on display for the world to appreciate and invest in,” he said while highlighting that the expo plays a key role in stimulating local economic development by creating a market for businesses to sell their products.
He further stressed that the event directly and indirectly provides employment and income for numerous families in this community, strengthening their ability to care for their children, pursue education, and improve their standards of living.
Also speaking at the opening, Nkurenkuru mayor Jafet Muti underscored the importance of supporting SMEs. “It’s crucial to support small businesses and community-led initiatives that are the backbone of our economy. As the mayor, I’m proud of how far we have come, and I’m confident that this year’s expo will once again serve its purpose to connect, to inspire and to empower. Let us use these few days to engage meaningfully and to learn from one another, to promote local products and build new partnerships that will contribute to the socio-economic development of Nkurenkuru and the country at large. This year we have Ford Ranger; they took the initiative to come scout for clients here, and we must support them,’’ he said.
