Africa-Press – Namibia. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged Namibians to make use of the supplementary voter registration now underway across the country rather than waiting until the last minute.

“This is your opportunity to register for the upcoming regional and local authorities elections scheduled for 26 November 2025,” she said in a national address this week. “Let us all play our part in shaping the future of our communities and nation.”

Okonjombo

On the ground during New Era’s recent to Kunene, Tuamunovipo Tjiningire waited before dawn and was the first person to register for a voter card when the supplementary registration team arrived in Okonjombo village of Opuwo Rural last week. He had missed last year’s registration because he was in hospital.

“When I got discharged from the hospital last year, the registration team had already moved out of our area. I did not get a card, so I could not vote. That is why I decided to be the first here. Last year, my family and I had moved our goats for grazing deep in the mountains because of drought. The registration team could not find us,” Tjiningire said.

Okonjombo is about 140 kilometres from the Opuwo town in the Kunene region.

For villagers like Mupurujani Koruhama, the visit by the registration team was a relief. Koruhama said he lost his voter card earlier this year and had come to replace it.

“I am here to renew it so that I can decide who will lead us. This year’s election is important. I want to vote for a leader I can take issues to directly. I will not miss it again, and I will make sure I do not lose my documents.”

Koruhama said the registration at Okonjombo was smooth and quick.

Meanwhile, Vejaterake Tjiningire also registered on the first day. For many in the village, the team’s arrival was a reminder that voting is still possible for those who missed the earlier drive.

At the registration station in Aucho Boshu 20, team leader Marvin Amporo of the Outjo registration team, described how the work is unfolding in Kunene.

“On the first day, turnout was slow. We registered 14 people: 12 new applicants, one duplicate and one change of address. Those are the main types of cases we handle – new voters who just turned 18, people who need a duplicate card, and those who need to change the address on their card,” said Amporo.

What to do

Supplementary registration runs from 4 to 19 August 2025 in all constituencies. If you are eligible and have not registered yet, moved to a different constituency, or lost your card, visit the nearest registration point and present your ID to get a new or updated voter card before next Tuesday. The Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections are set for 26 November.
