Africa-PressNamibia. IN the midst of an ongoing long week water crisis at Rundu, residents of the town in the Kavango-East Region will also have to do without electricity.

NamPower has in a statement announced that the town has been without power since Monday, 27 September, due to a technical problem being experienced at the Rundu Substation. NamPower has since been conducting a number of tests in order to identify the problem that is causing the power trips.

Petrus Immanuel, Area Manager of NamPower in the Northern Region, explained that a specialised technical team has been dispatched from Windhoek to strengthen efforts on the ground.

“NamPower is working in collaboration with NORED to identify and rectify the source of this problem. Please be assured that the power outage is receiving all our attention and efforts to ensure power supply to the town is restored. NamPower sincerely apologises to the residents of Rundu and the public in general for the inconvenience that the outage has caused,” Immanuel said.

The public is cautioned to treat all power lines and electrical points as live during power outages as no prior notification is given when power supply is restored. The power outage at Rundu comes in the wake of the town council cutting off water supply to residents due to a high water bill to NamWater.
