Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) plans to construct a multi-sport facility in the Okanguati settlement area in Kunene region.
This comes after the NSC in 2021 applied to the Kenene Regional Council for a piece of land on which to build the envisaged sport facility.
“This communication serves to inform you that your application for land allocation to construct sport facilities at Okanguati settlement area has been approved as per the council resolution and it is for leasing purposes,” said Kunene’s chief regional officer George Kamseb said last month.
NSC is required to develop the allocated land within 24 months. Failure to do so would result in the council revoking the allocation.
The portion of land is situated in a remote area with great potential for sport development, said NSC chief administrator Freddy Mwiya
“We will try our best to mobilise resources. We plan to develop sport facilities to accommodate at least seven various sport codes,” he said.
“Kunene is a vast region that needs to be given attention, and we have many people from that area who were previously disadvantaged. For that reason, we have to go to that given area.”
