Africa-Press – Namibia. RESIDENTS of Omusati Region joined the rest of the northern regions to pay their last respects to President Hage Geingob during a special regional memorial service held at the Olufuko Cultural Centre on Thursday.
President Geingob, who died nearly three weeks ago at the age of 82, continues to be described as a statesman, advocate for change, and a people’s person.
Omusati governor Erginus Endajala hailed President Geingob as a champion of peace and social justice.
According to Endajala, the late President Geingob, whose unwavering dedication and visionary leadership have left an indelible mark in the history of Namibia.
“As we reflect on his legacy, we are reminded of his profound commitment to the ideals of democracy, equality, and progress which guided him throughout his tenure,” he said.
He added that President Geingob embodied the spirit of resilience and determination that defined Namibia’s journey to independence and beyond.
Under President Geingob’s stewardship, Endajala said Namibia experienced remarkable socio-economic progress and political stability.
He indicated that President Geingob championed initiatives aimed at eradicating poverty, promoting education, and fostering sustainable development, laying the foundation for a more prosperous and equitable society.
His visionary policies paved the way for greater inclusivity and empowerment, empowering every Namibian to contribute to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
Endjala added that beyond his domestic achievements, President Geingob played a pivotal role in advancing peace, stability, and cooperation within African countries and globally.
Mourners after mourners described President Geingob as a peacekeeper and advocate for social justice who fought for the liberation of Namibia.
He was also remembered for giving the youth a chance to occupy decision-making positions in all sectors and believed in the youth for they are the future and should always be included in development.
An official memorial service for the late President Geingob will be held on Saturday at the Independence Stadium, and he will be laid to rest on Sunday at the Heroes Acre.
