Africa-Press – Namibia. THE 33rd Independence Day, which is commemorated on the 21st of March every year, will be celebrated in the Omusati Region this year. Omusati Governor, Erginus Endjala, confirmed this to Informanté on Friday. Namibia will turn 33 years on 21 March after gaining freedom on the same day in 1990.

Endjala said that the Independence Day celebration is not only a day for remembering those heroes and heroines who lost their lives through the liberation struggle, but also a day to reflect on how far the country has come after attaining independence.

“We are excited to host the national celebration as this opens up a window of opportunity for the region,” he said.

He added that this will also help boost the economy of the region, and hopefully also market the region. The financial budget for hosting the commemoration of the day is expected to be announced at a later stage. The 32nd Independence Day celebration was held in the Erongo Region.
