Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Omuthiya Town Council in the Oshikoto Region has paid a total amount of N$176,372 to three of its councilors who were suspended by fellow councilors last year, but who took the matter to the High Court and won.
All three — Nghipudilo Ya Shiindi, Beata Josef and Moses Amukoto — are IPC councilors.
The decision to reinstate them in their positions and pay their outstanding allowances was made in June, but the council dragged its feet, only agreeing to pay them on the 29th of August after they threatened to approach the High Court again.
Ya Shiindi, who in the meantime resigned her seat and relocated to Windhoek, was paid N$78,960, while Beata Moses and Moses Amukoto got N$48,706 each.
The Omuthiya Town Council currently has only five members after former mayor Johannes Ndeutepo resigned last month. No one was sworn in to replace him, and Gottlieb Mhata, who on 10 July was nominated to replace Ya Shiindi, will only be sworn in Friday, the 12th of September.
