Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ondangwa Town Council officially launched its five-year strategic plan with the aim of achieving developmental goals from July 2023 to June 2028.

Launching the plan, Chairperson of the Management Committee, Julia Kapia, said that having a good document alone does not guarantee success; it depends on how well they implement their plans.

“Executing the strategies and achieving goals as contained in the plan will depend on the strategic foundation of the town council, its leadership commitment, communications with stakeholders, and the community, as well as the council’s commitment to the core values,” she said.

She added that the strategic plan is a continuation of the work they have been doing over the past years.

Kapia indicated that the plan is drafted under five pillars which are good governance, infrastructure development and upgrading, economic and social progression, stakeholder engagement, and human capital development.

Town Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ismael Namugongo said that they want to tackle developmental-related matters in the town in order to be an engine of industrialization and sustainable development.

He noted that they are aware of their strengths, weaknesses, the opportunities, and threats that they have in Ondangwa as a whole, and need to be addressed at all levels.

“It is possible to attain such development goals given the resources available in the town, thus we identified strategic issues of focus,” he said.

Some of the issues identified, Namugongo highlighted, included stakeholder engagement, infrastructure development such as roads, electricity, sewer, and water.

Speaking at the same occasion, Oshana governor Elia Irimari indicated that he has seen the worst and growth of the town, hence it is commendable for Ondangwa to continue with ensuring development.
