Ondangwa prepares for rainy season

Africa-Press – Namibia. IN preparation for the rainy season, the Ondangwa Town Council has embarked on cleaning channels and culverts to prevent street flooding. Town spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said council kicked off the project in September and will continue until all the structures that channel water are clean.

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha added that the project is also to ensure motorists cross roads prone to flooding with ease during the rainy season. So far, council has managed to put culverts in the areas of Omakulukuma and Uupopo to connect the two informal settlements for motorists.

“Omakulukuma and Uupopo informal settlements are situated on a low point area of the road and water normally collects there,” she said.

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha lastly urged residents of Ondangwa to stop dumping solid waste in culverts and water channels, as they obstruct the free flow of water during the rainy season, which leads to flooding.
