Africa-Press – Namibia. Residents of Ondangwa have benefited from a free medical outreach programme organised by Duneseven Medical Care Centre to provide essential health services to community members with limited access to healthcare.

The two-day outreach, held at Ondangwa and supported by GwaShamba Mall, forms part of the nationwide ‘Dr Shapumba Free Medical Services’ initiative.

The programme targets residents who struggle to access basic health services due to financial constraints or long distances, particularly those from rural areas.

The initiative was founded by Walvis Bay-based medical practitioner Dr Elifas Shapumba and has grown steadily since January 2023.

Shapumba told The Namibian that the Ondangwa outreach marks the fourth campaign since Duneseven expanded to include its Omashaka branch.

“It started in January 2023 and has since grown into a powerful national movement for health prevention.

“During its first three editions held primarily within the Erongo region, the campaign provided free checkups, health assessments, and wellness counselling to as many as 900 people.

“A further 300 residents in the north are targeted during the fourth campaign, with special focus on elderly and vulnerable members of the community,” he says.

Services offered include free blood pressure checks, general body examinations, health assessments, health education, lifestyle counselling, information on Duneseven programmes, and free consultations for elderly residents.

“Our mission remains simple but powerful – to ensure that no Namibian is left behind when it comes to accessing basic healthcare.

“Treating close to a thousand people in Erongo was a milestone, and we are committed to bringing the same level of impact to the north,” Shapumba says.

He emphasises the importance of preventive care, noting that health should never be a privilege.

“By educating communities and offering free check-ups, we are building a healthier Namibia one campaign at a time.”

Campaign and project manager Pinehas Nakaziko says the initiative has grown significantly since its launch.

Most residents were tested for blood pressure, haemoglobin levels, HIV, and blood sugar, and about 50 elderly people received free treatment.

Shapumba confirms that more than 30 abnormal cases were detected and referred for further care.

The outreach concludes on Saturday, as the team continues delivering much-needed health services to the community.
