Africa-Press – Namibia. The Ongwediva Town Council on Tuesday re-elected Taarah Shalyefu as mayor of the town for another 12 months.

Shalyefu, who is also an Anglican clergyman and principal of Sakaria Shikudule Secondary School in Ohangwena, was elected when the council held its internal elections for political office-bearers.

His deputy, Ulalia Katonyala of Swapo, was re-elected as deputy mayor of Ongwediva. The chairperson of the management committee, Fabiam George, also retained his position.

Swapo’s Naemi Amuthenu and Independent Patriots for Change councillor Jona Helao were re-elected as members of the management committee. In an address after the elections, Shalyefu said he accepted the responsibility with no reservations.

He added that he will continue to serve the community of Ongwediva with determination. “I will continue advocating for hard work and innovation and apply transparency when rendering services,” said Shalyefu.
