Africa-Press – Namibia. Namibian athletes who did exceptionally well both on the continent and internationally will be honoured at Ongwediva later this year at a spectacular sport awards event.
The Ongwediva Town Council officially announced their acceptance at the launch of the 2025 sport awards edition, stating that it is with great humility and a deep sense of national pride that they accept the honour to host the Namibia Annual Sport Awards.
Ongwediva Town Council chief executive Damian Egumbo in a letter read on his behalf says: “ We are immensely grateful to the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) for this vote of confidence in our town’s capacity and readiness to serve as a worthy host for this flagship event on the national sporting calendar.”
“This opportunity is a celebration of Namibian excellence, perseverance and talent in the field of sport. As a town that recognises the transformative power of sport in uniting communities, promoting health and well-being, and fostering social cohesion, Ongwediva is resolute in its commitment to advancing the development of sport at both grassroots and elite levels,” says Egumbo.
“The council is committed to investing in sport infrastructure, community engagement programmes and youth development initiatives, with the firm belief that sport is not only a recreational activity, but a strategic tool for national development.”
He says the Ongwediva Town Council views the event as a continuation of that commitment and a platform through which the council reaffirms its support to the national sporting agenda.
“We further recognise the Namibia Annual Sport Awards as a moment of national reflection and celebration, a platform to pay tribute to our athletes, coaches, administrators and all those whose tireless efforts continue to inspire the nation and carry the Namibian flag onto global podiums.”
“To the athletes and sporting community, this event belongs to you. It is a moment to celebrate your dedication, to honour your triumphs, and to affirm that your contributions do not go unnoticed,” Egumbo says, expressing gratitude for the opportunity.
“We pledge to make this occasion a memorable celebration of sport, achievement and Namibian unity,” says the chief executive.
