Africa-Press – Namibia. The Oranjemund Town Council launched its investment policy on Wednesday.
The policy comes days after Namdeb Diamond Mine announced its long-term life of mine extension business plan which extends from 2022 to 2042. The town’s mayor, Elias Kasemba, said the announcement by Namdeb came at the right time as the council is looking forward to developing a diverse and sustainable town.
“This will improve the livelihood of our people, and create economic activities for the local community, the //Kharas region and Namibia in general,” said Kasemba.
The mayor explained that the council’s investment policy will serve as a framework and guideline for investment management for the town. He said if implemented correctly, it will enhance Oranjemund’s profile as an investment destination while encouraging diversification of the local economy.
“The policy is further used to direct the council’s position in attracting, participating, and maintaining investment from different investors and ensuring that there is a positive impact in attracting and retaining existing businesses,” said Kasemba.
He added investment opportunities are mainly in agricultural production, commercial retailers, tourism services, light and heavy industrial development, and manufacturing.
