During a stakeholder engagement held on Monday at the Ongwediva Trade Fair Centre, the CEO shared that the electrification includes 660 erven at Uupindi North and South in 2004 and 320 erven at Extensions 10, 11 and 12 at Evululuko.

He said that in 2011, Okandjengedi South had 395 erven electrified, with an additional 297 erven at Okandjengedi Golf being completed in 2014.

Another area that was electrified is Ompumbu in 2015, which saw 120 erven connected, and Onawa in 2014 with 183 erven.

“The most recent project we had was the electrification of 267 erven at Evululuko Extension 13 in 2019,” Sheya stated.

He added that the company has completed the electrification of 2 640 erven across various extensions in peri-urban areas and at 93 homesteads in Oshandumbola in 2020.

To improve public spaces and safety, OPE has installed 54 high masts in peri-urban areas.

It has also begun retrofitting streetlights with energy-efficient LED lights and installing traffic lights at 14 intersections.

The CEO said OPE is working on new electrification projects planned for 2025/2026, particularly at the Urban Commercial Othingo village, which will see the electrification of 25 commercial erven and Evululuko Extension 14, covering 420 erven.

Contractors are already on-site for both projects.
