Africa-Press – Namibia. The Oshakati Town Council on Friday presented its N$350 million budget for the 2025/26 financial year.
Council said the budget is balanced, with projected revenues matching planned expenditures, leaving no deficit or surplus.
Oshakati mayor Leonard Hango stated that this year’s budget focuses on key priority areas aligned with the council’s long-term strategic goals.
“These priorities include economic development, infrastructure improvement, social services enhancement as well as environment and allocation that will drive our progress in these areas,” he said.
In line with its strategic goals, the council has allocated N$7.1 million for the construction of bulk services at Ompumbu and N$4 million for installing water, sewer and electricity networks in the Uukwangula townships.
To improve road infrastructure, N$8 million is allocated for upgrading roads near Distil, Build It and Africa Meat Supply to bitumen standards.
A further N$7.5 million is set aside for building new roads in Oshakati North Extension 12, enhancing access to erven.
Additionally, the council has allocated N$2.5 million to upgrade the Oshakati West Road near Okatana Service Station.
Transport infrastructure will receive a boost, with N$7000 000 earmarked for a new taxi rank near Game Stores, especially serving the Endola-Okatana route.
Additionally, N$7 million has been allocated for town-wide road and stormwater system upgrades.
Hango said the council has been recognised as one of the leading towns in Namibia in land and housing delivery, with a strong track record in implementing related projects.
“As a result, the government, through the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, has allocated N$103 million towards the successful execution of the projects,” he added.
A major investment, N$56.7 million has been dedicated to the full construction of services in Oshakati North Extension 1.
“This particular servicing project is aimed at accommodating residents who will be relocated from the informal settlements that will be formalised,” Hango clarified.
A total of N$7 million is earmarked for the construction of a pump station and rising main at Evululuko. Additionally, N$8.5 million will go towards developing the sewer reticulation network in Evululuko Extensions 1, 10 and 12, while N$3.5 million is allocated for water reticulation works in Evululuko Extension Proper and Okandjengedhi Extension 1.
To further improve water supply reliability, N$8.5 million is set aside for the construction of both ground and elevated water reservoirs at Evululuko.
Meanwhile, N$3 million has been allocated for designing sewer and water systems for Okandjengedhi North and South.
