Africa-Press – Namibia. THE police of the Oshana Region celebrated the 31st Police Day at Oshakati recently. Oshakati town mayor Leonard Hango at the event called on all Oshana inhabitants to join in the fight against crime and ensure that the region becomes a crime-free area.

Hango said the Oshana police continue to intensify their fight against crime in the region, as well as maintain law and order. This is done as a team in conjunction with the community and various stakeholders, he said.

“The Namibian police force will continue to grow and be seen as an instrument aimed at enhancing quality service to the public.” The two-day event kicked off with a street procession in Ongwediva and Oshakati and concluded at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.

Oshana Regional Commander Commissioner Rauha Amwele said the Namibian police force was established under Article 118 of the Namibian Constitution which gave light to the enactment of the Police Act of 1990.

Commissioner Amwele and Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa received medals for 30 years of service, while others were awarded for 10 and 20 years of service.

A moment of silence was observed for members who perished in the line of duty and a wreath was laid. Police Day is celebrated on November 26 annually to mark the existence of the force and honour members.
