Africa-Press – Namibia. OSHANA education director Hileni Amukana said there is a great shortage of classrooms in the region.

Amukana said that provision of quality education is a joint undertaking by government, business community, parents and partner’s in education.

She made the remarks during the official opening of the computing school at Oshakati recently.

According to her, the school of computing need additional classrooms, administration, block, other specialised classes, libraries, laboratories and entertainment Centre for the learners to ensure quality education.

“The curriculum 2016 implementation will come at a high cost, and will need support from all our stakeholders,” she said.

She added that the expansion of pre-primary education and the high demand for grades 8 remain persistent challenges.

Amukana indicated that this lead to some of the learners being taught in tents and some schools implemented the platoon system to cater for pre-primary and grades 1.

Thus, Amukana called upon all people to invest in education to ensure they provide quality education.

Minister of Education Anna Nghipondoka said the ministry tireless efforts are afoot to construct more schools, add more classrooms and ablution facilities.

She said that this is because they are faced with a huge backlog of basic education facilities.

While this remains of utmost concern to the ministry, Nghipondoka indicated that the ministry prioritisation of infrastructure development is at the top of the ministerial developmental agenda, moving forward.
