Africa-Press – Namibia. OSHIKOTO Governor Penda Ya Ndakolo has expressed concern over the high number of road accidents in the region, which continue to claim the lives of many productive citizens. In his State of the Region Address (SORA) on Wednesday, Ya Ndakolo emphasized the need for immediate action to reduce road accidents.

According to the governor, the region recorded a total of 201 crashes, resulting in 468 injuries and 51 fatalities.

“Most of these accidents occur during weekends, which is indicative of a worrisome trend,” he said.

Ya Ndakolo urged people to remain vigilant on the roads and strictly adhere to traffic laws in order to protect themselves and others.

Additionally, he called upon the Namibian Police Commissioner and her team to intensify awareness campaigns focused on issues such as overloading, speed management, vehicle safety, and verification of drivers’ documents.

Ya Ndakolo firmly believes that such campaigns will contribute to curbing the escalating number of accidents in the region.
