Africa-Press – Namibia. TO effectively ensure safety and security, it is crucial to provide necessary support to the men and women in uniform.
James Uerikua, the Governor of the Otjozondjupa region, highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the Namibian Police in the region during his recent State of the Region Address (SORA).
Uerikua specifically addressed the shortage of housing for the police, emphasizing the need for proper shelter for law enforcement officers.
According to Uerikua, there is still a significant shortage of housing for men and women in uniform. He urged all Local Authorities to make land available for housing purposes to address this issue.
“There is also a need for a police pathology unit in the region,” he added.
Furthermore, Uerikua noted that during the review period, 15 vehicles were decommissioned, and 50% to 60% of the fleet remains grounded due to accidents and mechanical problems.
In addition, Uerikua highlighted that the Mangetti Dune, Okakarara, Rooidag, Osire, Hochfeld, Kalkfeld, Kombat Police Stations, and the Otjiwarongo Crime Investigation Unit currently lack vehicles.
He mentioned that transportation from nearby stations is being sourced to assist these stations in cases of emergency.
