Africa-Press – Namibia. A total of 109 women were screened for breast and cervical cancers, while 45 men underwent prostate cancer screening by prostate specific antigen, or PSA, test says Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) chief executive Rolf Hansen.

“This in addition to the 100 women and 27 men of the previous campaign earlier, this month brings the total to over 280 people who accessed these lifesaving interventions, completely free of charge,” he says.

Hansen further says the community clinic highlights the critical need for ongoing cancer screening campaigns across the country.

Hansen commended those who took advantage of the screening service.

“What is encouraging is seeing fellow Namibians, mostly men, started to understand the importance of screening and choosing to join us in taking charge of their health,” he says.

Hansen urges men and women to he screened for cancer.

Another free clinic is scheduled at the end of June at the CAN Erongo Centre in Swakopmund.

The annual national cancer outreach programme is set to resume in August.
