Africa-Press – Namibia. THE parliament has partnered with the health ministry to set up a clinic at its premises.
The clinic, which became operational mid-April, will serve as an emergency care unit, dealing with any health emergency at the precincts of the parliament.
According to a statement by parliament, the clinic is situated in the National Assembly building, ground floor, northern wing, opposite the chamber. It operates from Monday to Friday during normal working hours.
“The emergency care unit is manned by two emergency nurses, who have been seconded from the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
“It is open to serving members of parliament (MPs) and staff from both houses of parliament as well as institutions close to the parliament precinct, such as the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation and Ministry of Information and Communication Technology,” the statement read.
Over the past few years, parliament experienced two fatalities: the death of Lotto Kuushomwa – a former MP in the National Council – and the late Ignatius Shixwameni from National Assembly who both collapsed and died at the precincts of the parliament in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
