Parties wrap up their election campaigns

Africa-Press – Namibia. POLITICAL parties, associations and independent candidates this weekend wrapped up their election campaigns with rallies, street processions and door-to-door visits in a last-minute attempt to attract voters.

In the four northern regions of Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Oshana and Omusati, SWAPO, PDM, IPC, AR, NEFF and BCP were, to varied extents, the most visible political parties during this election campaign, with a number of independent candidates and local residents’ associations in the mix.

Addressing one of SWAPO’s concluding rallies at Oshakati on Sunday, former minister Erastus Uutoni said his party wants to retain all eleven constituencies in the Oshana Region and also win all 21 seats in the region’s three local authorities: Ondangwa, Ongwediva and Oshakati.

He said that for the 8th Administration under President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to fully implement SWAPO’s election manifesto and the NDP6, there is a need to have an unbroken chain of elected SWAPO office-bearers from the central government down to the regional councils and the local authorities.

He urged party candidates to work hard once elected into public office.

He reminded them that their predecessors worked hard: Local councillors built the towns that we have today, and the constituency councillors took development to the remotest areas.

During the rally, three new members joined the party from the IPC.
