Africa-Press – Namibia. The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) has lost five more members who opted to contest as independent candidates or join other political parties in the upcoming elections.
The members were expelled from the PDM for their intention to contest as independent candidates aginst the party.
The current chairperson of the Walvis Bay municipal council, Richard Hoaeb, is one of the members who opted to contest as an independent candidate in the Walvis Bay Rural constituency.
Another member, Florence Uapakua Ndinda, will also be contesting as an independent candidate in the Okakarara constituency, while Ernest Muraranganda is contesting the Otjiwarongo local authority elections under Swanu.
Others are Piet Mostert, who is contesting under the Outjo Residents Association, as well as Dankeni Tjilongo, Hermina Khairabes and Jenny Kandukira, who have publicly declared their support for the same association in the Outjo local authority elections.
According to a statement issued yesterday, PDM secretary general Manuel Ngaringombe said the members’ actions are in direct violation of the party’s constitution, which states that “a member ceases to be a member if they stand for or accept nomination against an official candidate of the PDM in any public election.”
He further referred to Article 13 of the party’s constitution, which requires all members to “pledge their unwavering loyalty and support to the PDM, and commit themselves to the advancement of the interests of the party.”
“By their decisions to stand against the officially endorsed candidates of the PDM and/or pledging support for parties or associations in direct competition in the public election, the aforementioned individuals have violated the party’s principles of unity, loyalty and discipline,” Ngaringombe said.
He added that discipline and loyalty remain the cornerstones of the movement, and any act of defiance against the party’s collective decisions undermines its shared mission to serve the Namibian people with integrity and commitment.
“The PDM continues to move forward with renewed focus and unity as we prepare for the upcoming elections, committed to delivering accountable, transparent and people-centred leadership across all regions of Namibia,” he said.
Earlier this month, PDM lost prominent members, including former parliamentarians Charmaine Tjirare and Yvette Araes, as well as former youth leader Julia Nekwaya.
