Africa-Press – Namibia. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) is not a platform for job-creation only, but a voluntary service commitment to protect and serve.

She made these remarks during the graduation of 1 779 police cadet constables on Friday at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.

The event marked the conclusion of the Police Basic Training Course 1 of 2024/2025.

The new constables completed 11 months of rigorous training at three police training centres: Ruben ‘Danger’ Ashipala in Oshana, Simon Mutumba Mutumba in Zambezi and Pius Joseph Kaundu in Omaheke.

The graduation took place under the theme ‘Together We Stand: Empowering a Safer Namibia’.

The President said the theme highlights the need for unity within the Force, and collaboration with communities to achieve national safety.

She commended the graduates for their dedication, reminding them of the seriousness of the profession they are entering.

“Becoming a police officer is no mean feat. It is a challenging job that requires mental, intellectual and physical strength. You are the first line of defence between the people and those who threaten their safety. Yours is a calling of selflessness,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

She urged the new officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and discipline, noting that their actions directly impact the public’s trust in the police force.

She said they are not only guardians of peace and order, but also contributors to the socio-economic development of Namibia.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the importance of continued learning and mentorship, encouraging graduates to remain committed to the core values of the Force.

“Let your service be marked by patriotism, professionalism and the pursuit of justice,” she said.

Speaking at the ceremony, police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo urged the graduates to embody the principles of NamPol: fairness, accountability, transparency and non-discrimination.

“Let these values guide your every step. Together, we reaffirm our dedication to justice, service and the proud legacy of the Namibian Police Force,” said Shikongo.

The event served as a powerful reminder that policing is a noble and demanding responsibility, Shikongo added.
