Africa-Press – Namibia. Ashley Nyambe THE Roads Authority (RA) has issued a warning that the MR 118 road between Rosh Pinah and Oranjemund could potentially be closed at any time due to the anticipated flooding of the Lower Orange River.
The warning comes after NamWater cautioned that a serious flood could occur at the Lower Orange River due to recent heavy rains, releases and spillages from certain dams.
According to the RA, a section of road which is about 26 to 32 km from Rosh Pinah is slightly above water levels at the moment. If the water rises higher than the road, then the road could be closed. However, the situation will be monitored and the public will be updated accordingly.
RA announced that it is taking precautionary measures and is currently in discussion with the relevant stakeholders to build a temporary bypass with the assistance of Namdeb.
All road users are advised to be cautious when using the MR 118 road and to ascertain the status of the route before making any travel arrangements. Photo for illustrative purposes only.
