Africa-Press – Namibia. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has, on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission, appointed three acting judges to the High Court.
Judge Lotta Ambunda has been appointed for a second tenure from 1 August to 31 October 2025. Her last tenure will end on 31 July.
She is a member of the Society of Advocates and was admitted to the Bar in 2020. Deon Obbes was appointed from 17 July to 31 August 2025.
This is his first tenure as a judge of the High Court. He currently practices as a member of the Society of Advocates, having been admitted to the Bar in 2005.
Additionally, Marelize du Plessis has been appointed from 1 August to 31 July 2026. She currently serves as a regional court magistrate, a position she has held since 2016.
She hails from the crop of nominees interviewed by the Commission for possible appointments as judges of the High Court. She took over the Fishrot trial. “The Judicial Service Commission congratulates the acting judges on their appointments and wishes them well in the execution of their onerous tasks,” the Commission said in a statement.
