Africa-Press – Namibia. WEATHER forecasters continue to warn of a heightened risk of flash flooding in vulnerable areas, while the rain has brought much-needed relief to farms and towns. Widespread rainfall and intense thundershowers were recorded across large parts of Namibia over the past few days, with some areas receiving significant overnight totals.
Reports shared on social media indicate particularly heavy rainfall in parts of the Otjozondjupa Region. West of Hochfeld, 24 millimetres of rain was recorded overnight, accompanied by persistent thunderstorms and lightning. At Omateva Farm, about 15 kilometres east of Omitara, heavy thunderstorms between 01:30 and 03:45 produced 24.5 millimetres of rain, with strong winds reported across a wide area.

Substantial rainfall was also recorded near Tsumeb. Bergen Farm, situated south-east of the town, reported 56 millimetres of rain, with more rain continuing. Motorists along the Tsumeb–Tsintsabis road reported significant water accumulation on the road about 40 kilometres outside Tsumeb, where a strong rainstorm was observed. Emilienhof, about 20 kilometres south of Tsumeb, recorded 12 millimetres and ongoing rainfall, while Grootfontein received 7.4 millimetres overnight after two consecutive days of rain, with showers resuming early in the morning.
In central Namibia, Ombujomenge Farm, about 10 kilometres west of Wilhelmstal, recorded 9.5 millimetres of rain during the afternoon and a further 1 millimetre overnight. Osmoor Farm near Maroelaboom in the Otjozondjupa Region reported 5 millimetres, while an area 35 kilometres east of Omaruru received 13 millimetres.
Eastern parts of the country also benefited from the rainfall. At Freiheit Ost, about eight kilometres south of Witvlei, rain that began around 03:00 produced 30 millimetres by 08:00. In Gobabis, the Booysen plot recorded a total of 10 millimetres from Tuesday through to Thursday morning. Breakwater and surrounding areas reported between 8 and 15 millimetres overnight.
Further south, Mariental’s industrial area received 6 millimetres over the weekend, bringing the area’s weekly total to about 80 millimetres. Windhoek recorded lighter rainfall, with about 3.1 millimetres reported.
According to Namibia Weather Forecast, tropical moisture aligned from north to south continues to influence weather conditions across much of the country. An advisory remains in place for heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding, and residents are urged to take precautions, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
The Namibia Meteorological Service forecasts partly cloudy and warm to very hot conditions in interior regions, with extreme heat expected in the southern parts of the //Kharas Region. A few thundershowers are expected in most areas, while scattered thundershowers are forecast in parts of Omaheke, Khomas, Kavango and Zambezi. Coastal areas are expected to be partly cloudy and mild to warm, with showers and thundershowers over central coastal areas.
