Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Roads Authority (RA) is cautioning road users to be vigilant when using the Rosh Pinah to Oranjemund road due to expected serious flooding of the Orange River.
In a media release on Thursday, the Roads Authority said Namibia is expected to experience serious flooding of the Orange River in the next few days due to the current high rainfalls in South Africa.
The Roads Authority added that a section of road MR 118 (Rosh Pinah to Oranjemund), between kilometer 26 and kilometer 32 measured from Rosh Pinah, east of the Sendelingdrift Mine, is currently slightly above the water levels flowing from the Orange River.
According to the Roads Authority report, the bulk of the water is still approaching and the highest levels of water should be expected from 29 and 30 January until 5 and 6 February 2022.
Thus, if the water levels rise higher than the road level, the Roads Authority will have to close the road (MR118) immediately, for the safety of road users.
Road users are requested to first ascertain the status of this route before making any travelling arrangements. Due to the anticipated flooding of the Orange River, the road could be closed at any time.
