Africa-Press – Namibia. SOUTH Africa made a clean sweep of the Allistair Fredericks u18 Hockey African Challenge after beating Namibia’s boys and girls on Tuesday night.

In the girls competition, SA gave their best performance of the tournament after beating Namibia 4-0 in the third test, after winning the previous two 3-1 and 3-2.

The series’ leading goal scorer Jana van Antwerpen gave SA the lead after a great counterattack on 23 minutes, as the hosts took a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

Anja Tromp made it 2-0 from a short corner early in the second half, while captain Kirsty Leonard made it 3-0 with a hard, low shot from a short corner after 37 minutes.

Namibia had a few chances of their own but could not convert and SA sealed the win when Taheera Agousti smashed home a loose ball just before full time.

Despite the defeat, Namibia were competitive throughout against their southern neighbours and with a bit more experience could become a force to be reckoned with.

Namibia’s u18 boys team, however, suffered another comprehensive defeat, going down 7-0 on Tuesday, after losing the first two tests, 4-0 and 10-1.

On Tuesday, Namibia initially defended well, but SA dominated possession and eventually opened their account through Jamie Seale in the 12th minute.

From then on it was one-way traffic as they regularly found the net. Ross Montgomery added two goals, and Akha Mda, Carlon Mentoor, Brett Horn and James Flint one each as they completed a convincing victory and a 3-0 series win.
