Africa-Press – Namibia. Windhoek mayor Sadé Gawanas has assured soccer lovers that the Sam Nujoma Stadium would finally get a facelift in the new year.

Speaking to Desert Radio on Friday, Gawanas said the city has allocated and approved a budget to renovate the iconic ‘theatre of soccer dreams’.

“We have finally budgeted for it. So, you will see some work being done at the stadium next year,” she said.

Without revealing the allocated amount, Gawanas said the Sam Nujoma Stadium is one of the city’s priority infrastructure and its refurbishment would go a long way in ensuring it continues to serve its purpose.

“From early next year, you will see some developments on site, with most of the work starting in March,” she added.

She further noted that this year marked a positive stride in the city’s drive to make available decent housing for its residents.

Gawanas stated that considerable work has been done on the ongoing development in the Ongos Valley area on the outskirts of the city, while land development remains a priority.

“My last words for the year are that I love all the residents of the city, and we will continue to do all we can to improve service delivery,” she said.
