Africa-Press – Namibia. A great bowling performance by Bernard Scholtz led Namibia to an emphatic 63-run victory against Nepal in Ayr on Saturday.

Namibia were all out for 199, which proved to be more than enough as Nepal were bundled out for 136, with Scholtz providing the man of the match performance with 5 wickets for 22 runs.

Namibia got off to a hesitant start, losing their first three wickets for 36 runs, but Gerhard Erasmus and Nicol Loftie Eaton (19) put them on track with a 69-run fourth wicket partnership.

Leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane put Nepal back in the driving seat, taking the wickets of Loftie-Eaton (19), Jan Frylinck (3) and Erasmus (53 off 70 balls) in quick succession as Namibia stumbled to 112/6 off 27 overs.

Namibia’s lower order, however, recovered well with JJ Smit (27), David Wiese (34) and Ruben Trumpelmann (19) all making solid contributions before the whole team was out for 199 off 49,2 overs.

Lamichhane was the pick of Nepal’s bowlers, taking 4/29, while Sompal Kami took 2/33 and Dipendra Airee 2/9.

Jan Frylinck made an early breakthrough in Nepal’s innings, dismissing Hushal Bhurtel for a duck and Dev Khanal for 1, while Scholtz halted a comeback with the wickets of Aasif Sheikh (34), and Rohit Paudel (17).

Dipendra Airee and Mohammad Alam led a revival but Scholtz once again got the breakthrough, dismissing Alam for 20 and when Airee was run out for 38, Nepal’s resistance crumbled as they lost their last four wickets for four runs to be all out for 136 off 37,5 overs.

Scholtz led the way with 5/22 off 9,5 overs, while Frylinck took 3/26 off 10.

It was Namibia’s second victory against Nepal, after they won by 40 runs on 11 July, although they suffered two defeats to Scotland – by 77 runs on 10 July and by three wickets on 14 July.

The results leave Namibia fifth on the log on 18 points from 18 matches, while Scotland are second on 44 from 23 matches and Nepal sixth on 17 from 19 matches.

Oman lead the log on 44 points from 36 matches.
