Africa-Press – Namibia. THE ongoing rainfall across various parts of the country has resulted in continued positive inflows into many of the country’s dams.
“NamWater is pleased to report significant positive inflows into several key dams across the country following recent rainfall. The latest dam bulletin, dated 24 February 2025, shows notable increases in water levels at Omatako Dam, Friedenau Dam, Otjivero Main Dam, Otjivero Silt Dam, Neckartal Dam, and Naute Dam,” Lot Ndamanomhata, NamWater’s Head of Public Relations and Corporate Communications, said.
According to the NamWater Dam Bulletin, Omatako Dam saw a substantial increase, with its volume rising by 2.524 million cubic metres (Mm3) since last week Monday, 17 February 2025, bringing its capacity to 24.8% on Monday, 24 February 2025.
“This increase is a welcome boost to the Central Area of Namibia, which relies heavily on the integrated water supply system,” Ndamanomhata said.
The bulletin further reported that Friedenau Dam recorded a healthy inflow of 0.014 Mm3, pushing its storage level to 46.8% of full capacity, while Otjivero Main Dam and Otjivero Silt Dam saw inflows of 0.116 Mm3 and 0.153 Mm3, respectively, enhancing water availability in the Gobabis region.
Southern dams also continued to experience strong inflows, particularly in the //Kharas Region, which received moderate to heavy rainfall last week. Neckartal Dam, the largest in Namibia, saw an increase of 0.728 Mm3 since 17 February 2025, bringing its level to 81.2% as of 24 February 2025. Meanwhile, Naute Dam recorded a rise of 1.484 Mm3, reaching 33.7% of its full capacity.
“These positive developments signal improved water security for various sectors, including agriculture, industry, and domestic consumption. However, NamWater continues to encourage responsible water use and conservation efforts to sustain resources for the long term,” Ndamanomhata added.
