Africa-Press – Namibia. WHILE many Namibians were preparing for the beginning of a new year, the Oshikuku Town Council in line with President Hage Geingob’s continuous call for goodwill and compassion were making a difference in the lives of several elders by donating food parcels at the town.
Each parcel contained 10 kg maize meal, 750 ml cooking oil, 2 kg sugar, 2 kg rice, 26 teabags, canned fish and jam. Oshikuku Mayor Julia Endjambi said the donation was made possible through funds given by the seven councillors.
Endjambi said the beneficiaries were determined on the grounds of age and the most destitute. “This is our gesture of showing love to our elders in the town who might not have anything.” Endjambi said they intend to increase the number of beneficiaries as time goes by and share with more elders.
“At the moment what we are giving is small but we hope to give big next time,” she said, adding that the gesture is also a thank you to council as they aim to steer the town towards development.
