Shalulile reaches new goal milestone

Africa-Press – Namibia. PETER Shalulile has again laid bare the issue of consistent scorers in the South African Premiership after becoming the only tenth players to reach 90 goals in the colours of a domestic club in the PSL era, stretching from August 1996.

Shalulile’s brace on Tuesday evening against Richards Bay in the Nedbank Cup last 32 pushed him to 90 goals playing for a top tier club.

Those two goals meant he has been on double figures in all the three seasons that he has been at Sundowns.

He now has the legendary Daniel Mudau’s incredible run of at least 20 goals three years in a row in sight.

Mudau scored at least 20 goals three seasons in a row (26 in 1998/99; 21 in 1999/00; and 23 in 2000/01).

Regarding the 90-goals mark, only 10 players sit on that table.

Top of the list are the five who have surpassed 100 career goals, led by Siyabonga Nomvethe’s 123 goals. Next on the list is Mudau and Mabhuti Khenyeza with 110 each, Manuel ‘Tico-Tico’ Bucuane (104) of Mozambique and Zambian Collins Mbesuma (103).

Of those that are still active, Zimbabwean Khama Billiat leads the list with 97 but his recent groin surgery means he is sidelined for the rest of this season.

Veteran forward Bradley Grobler is on 96 goals, and the best bet to reach three figures this term.

Former Zimbabwe international Wilfred ‘Silver Fox’ Mugeyi reached 91 goals in the PSL era years, while Lehlonoholo Majoro is on 91 goals and in the autumn of his career.

Then there is ‘Sha-Sha’ Shalulile who is on 90 in only his sixth season. Playing top flight football in South Africa.

Only Mudau played less than 10 seasons in the PSL of those in the top 10.

Inclusive of his last season at Highlands Park, he has now been on double figures four years in a row which has catapulted him to the ranks of ‘one of the best strikers to ever play in the PSL.
