Africa-Press – Namibia. Namibian welterweight boxer Charles Shinima will take on top Russian prospect Khariton Agrba in Saint Petersburg on 7 October.

Immanuel Moses of AC Promotions announced the fight in a press release yesterday saying it was a great opportunity for Shinima.

“This is a great opportunity for Charles to test himself against a world class talent. We are confident in his preparation and we believe he will once again make Namibia proud on the international stage,” he said.

The 33-year-old Shinima has a professional record of 19 wins and two defeats, while the 29-year-old Agrba has a record of 15 wins and one defeat.

After launching his professional career in 2019, Agrba won his first six fights before winning the IBF European super lightweight title with a third round knockout victory over Petr Petrov two years later.

He continued his unbeaten streak with seven more victories during which he also beat Namibia’s former IBF and IBO super lightweight champion Julius Indongo on a third round knockout in 2022.

In September last year he added the IBF Inter-Continental Super Lightweight title to his collection with a unanimous points decision against Claudio Daneff of Argentina.

Agrba’s unbeaten streak however came to an end in July this year when he suffered a second round knockout against Ruben Munoz of Argentina.

Shinima launched his professional career in 2017 and got off to a great start, winning his first seven fights before annexing the Namibian super welterweight title with a second round knockout against Ebenestus Kaangundue two years later.

He notched up a further four victories before adding the WBO Africa welterweight title to his collection with a second round knockout of Mohamed Mutalemwa of Tanzania in 2021.

Shinima added four more victories but suffered his first defeat on a fourth round technical knockout against Denis Nurja of Albania in March last year.

Since then he beat Stefanus Josua on a third round knockout but then suffered his second defeat, losing a controversial split points decision against Brandon Thysse of South Africa on 1 March this year.

Four weeks later Shinima, however, returned to winning ways with a third round TKO victory against Dickson Saidi of Malawi and Moses believes that Shinima’s career is still on track towards world title contention.

“Shinima enters the fight with an impressive professional record and a growing reputation for his resilience, tactical ring IQ, and knockout power. His upcoming bout against Khariton Agrba is expected to draw attention from boxing fans around the world and boost his trajectory towards title contention,” the press release states.
