Africa-Press – Namibia. JJ Smit won Wanderers’ Sportsman of the Year award at their cricket prize giving function on Friday.

Smit was a key member of the national Namibian Eagles side that qualified for the T20 World Cup for the past two years, while he also played a key role with both bat and ball for Wanderers in the Premier League, where they finished runners-up to WHS Old Boys Cricket Club.

Tommy van der Merwe, who represented Wanderers’ second team, won the Player’s Player of the Year award, which was selected by all Wanderers’ players of the Premier, First Division and Second Division leagues.

Niko Davin won the Premier League Best Batsman award after scoring 354 runs at an average of 29,50, with a top score of 106 not out.

Danie van Schoor won the Premier League Best Bowler award after taking 19 wickets for 249 runs at an average of 13,11, with a best performance of 3/3.

Karl Birkenstock won the Premier League All-rounder award after scoring 141 runs and taking 12 wickets, while Michau du Preez won the Premier League Best Fielder award.

LP van der Westhuizen won the First Division Best Batsman award after scoring 782 runs at an average of 65,17, which included three centuries, four fifties and an incredible 63 sixes.

Francois du Plessis won the First Division Best Bowler award after taking 31 wickets for 394 runs, at an average of 12,71; Wessel Myburgh won the First Division All-rounder award after scoring 494 runs and taking 11 wickets; and Gerhard Lotter won the Second League Best Fielder award.

JC Balt won the Best Junior award; Francois du Plessis won the Upcoming Junior award; and Tiaan van der Merwe won the Most Improved Player of all the leagues award.

Tommie van der Merwe won the Most Dedicated Player award, Susca Loftie-Eaton won the Scorer of the Year award, and Annemarie de Villiers won the Administrator of the Year award.
