Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA this week received 15 000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine that were donated by the Serbian Government. A second batch of the donated vaccines, also consisting of 15 000 Sputnik V vaccines, will be arriving in the coming weeks.
The Sputnik V vaccine is manufactured by Gamaleya in Russia and is approved to be used in Namibia as per the provisions of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act 13 of 2003.
The government of Serbia paid for all transportation costs for the vaccine to Namibia, which arrived yesterday, 2 September. The Namibian government is currently busy with logistics to roll out the Sputnik V vaccine nationally.
Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombe, said that the public will be informed when the vaccine is available to the public.
“Namibia is grateful for this generous gesture from the government of Serbia. The support is a demonstration of true solidarity, especially during this time when we are confronted with the devastating effects of COVID-19,” Nangombe concluded. Namibia is already administering the AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines.
