Africa-Press – Namibia. SWAPO Party Youth League (SPYL) central committee member Willem Amutenya has asked the youth league’s secretary, Ephraim Nekongo, to convene an urgent special central committee meeting to discuss high youth unemployment in the country.
Amutenya, in his letter, said the issue of youth unemployment has been the SPYL’s core discussion.
“We have seen some fellow youth protesting on Independence Day. This situation demands that we fully adjust our political views and programmes in response to this socio-economic issue,” Amutenya wrote.
This week, Popular Democratic Movement parliamentarian Inna Hengari, and social justice activists Dimbulukeni Nauyoma and Michael Amushelelo, were arrested for leading an unsanctioned demonstration over the high unemployment rate.
