Africa-Press – Namibia. TSUMEB constituency councillor Gottlieb “Gotty” Ndjendjela has allegedly fired 35 employees at a mini market at Omuthiya in Oshikoto region.

The 35 were fired on 20 June after one of them allegedly gave a plastic carrier bag to a customer who allegedly gave the employee N$2 in return.

The mini market is owned by Rani Group of Companies, an Indian-owned retailer in northern Namibia.

Ndjendjela’s company, Employee Placement Services Namibia, provides employees to the mini market on a contract basis.

The expelled employees staged a demonstration against their dismissal at the mini market on Friday morning.

Former Omuthiya councillor Moses Amukoto, who organised the strike, said the employees were fired for questioning why their colleague was expelled for giving away a plastic bag.

Contacted for comment, Ndjendjela only responded: “Wildcat strike.”
