Maria David THE Swapo Party candidate Kennedy Simasiku has been declared the winner for the Katima Mulilo Urban Constituency following by-elections that saw him collecting an overwhelming majority of the votes. Simasiku bagged 1 557 votes out of the 3 002 votes casted, with 6 ballots of the total number rejected.

Independent Candidate Gibson Nkando came in behind him after securing 417 votes, Lynnette Malipa from the Independent Patriots of Change (IPC) received 297 votes and Mweti Matengu from Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) received 295 votes.

Meanwhile, Chripher Simasiku from the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Poniso Miller, also an Independent Candidate, received 282 and 156 votes, respectively. Katima Mulilo has a total 14 241 registered voters, however, only 21% of the voters showed up to vote.
