Swartbooi claims LPM won 25 seats in parliament

Africa-Press – Namibia. LANDLESS People’s Movement (LPM) leader Bernadus Swartbooi claims his party won 25 seats in the National Assembly during the general elections in November 2019, but was only given four.

Swartbooi said this in an interview with South African news channel Newzroom Afrika in Johannesburg this week.

“We got 25 seats, and 21 were taken. We know what we are talking about.

“There were the EVMs, and they gave us four seats in the National Assembly out of 96,” he said.

He said his party won two regions and about 20 municipalities out of the 57 local authorities in the country.

This made the LPM the second-largest political party in the country, Swartbooi said.

“A lot of leadership that we have are young women of 22 and 27 years old, who are mayors and chairpersons of local authorities,” he said.

Swartbooi and other members of parliament from Namibia were in Johannesburg to attend a Pan-African Parliament session.
