HAVING a degree in education has not stopped 30-year-old Levi Twaitavela from following his passion for music.

To balance the two things that bring him joy, he has opted to wear the educator hat during the day and a disk jockey who makes beats on the decks at night.

The Okalongo born teacher currently employed at St. Francis Primary School in Tsumeb has become a popular DJ at the garden town who plays at entertainment gatherings or children’s parties.

He explained that he started DJ’ing as soon as he became a teacher and has over the years improved on his skills by learning from a local DJ known as Sacky Shailemo, stage name ‘DJ Sackman.’

Twaitavela became an educator in 2015 after he was hired to teach design and technology, as well as mathematics.

“Teaching not only taught me that I remain a student for the rest of my life, but that educating a Namibian child can change their lives,” he said.

Twaitavela is also an avid footballer and is also known for playing in various soccer leagues dating back to 2013 while at university, as well as for playing for a local soccer team, Benfica.

While teaching, Twaitavela has inspired about 30 learners to become football players, be it at school or in the communities that they live in.

“I am not just a teacher, but a friend when they face challenges and need advice during crises,” he said.

Twaitavela also thanked his friend late Erica Natangwe for being an inspiration in his life career.

“I will always look up to him for inspiration for me to continue teaching my learners,” he concluded.
