Africa-Press – Namibia. TELECOM Namibia has officially launched its Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP) for 2023 to 2027, aimed at making the company more customer-centric in its service delivery.
According to the Deputy Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, who spoke at the recent launch of the ISBP, telecommunication operators have been under immense pressure as their traditional way of doing business has gradually eroded. However, she added, the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in strong growth in global connectivity, and telecommunication operators rose to the challenge of connecting people to work, education, social events, and online healthcare services.
“The pandemic has acted as a catalyst for accelerating digital transformation and more flexible and sustainable ways of working and thus plays a vital role in stimulating economic growth and bridging the digital divide,” she explained.
Hinda-Mbuende added that this forced telecommunication operators worldwide, including Telecom Namibia, to refocus on the integration of technical and funding resources to restructure operations and meet customers’ changing needs. Therefore, Telecom Namibia’s ISBP is geared towards making the company more customer-centric in its service delivery.
The deputy minister emphasized that Telecom Namibia’s business and funding plan is not only informed by government policies but is also fundamental in preparing Namibia for the fourth industrial revolution. The plan, she added, ultimately aims to achieve the government’s development plans related to access to and the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) services and products.
“The government plays a dual role in shaping the interactions among key players in the Namibian digital transformation ecosystem: first, as a policy and rule-maker, to create the enabling environment, and secondly, as a strategic investor in digital technology applications and data, in support of transformation,” she added.
She emphasized that the government remains committed to growing and developing infrastructure, facilitating innovation, and creating frameworks to ensure the realization of the objectives set out in Vision 2030, the Fifth National Development Plan (NDP5), and soon the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP 6), and the Second Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPPII).
“To achieve Vision 2030, the Namibian government has accelerated the use of ICT, by developing and implementing enabling Policies in reforming the ICT sector, with the aim of ensuring that every citizen and resident shall have affordable access to high-quality information and communication services,” she added.
