Africa-Press – Namibia. President Hage Geingob has heaped praise on Namibian teachers “for their joint efforts and generous contributions to the development of our human capital to realise their full potential”. The President said this on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day.

“Through the noble efforts of a teacher and education, the son of a farm worker becomes a President of a country and the daughter of a domestic worker becomes a medical doctor,” said Geingob in a statement released by the Presidency this afternoon.

“As a former teacher myself, I am fully aware of the vital and difficult role teachers play in education and in building better and successful communities. In this regard, I encourage all teachers to work together to shape an ethical society of quality citizens who can play their part in strengthening the foundations of the Namibian House.”

World Teachers’ Day is being celebrated under the theme ‘The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers’. “As a nation we are reminded about the highest respect we should hold for teachers during crucial periods, including the Covid-19 pandemic. We continue to place our confidence in you as the backbone of our education system, and you should, therefore, embrace the noble call of guaranteeing quality education and developing the Namibian child to be competitive in a knowledge society,” he said.

“Teachers’ efforts cannot be ignored as they have demonstrated a heart for education even during difficult times and circumstances. Indeed, the world is a better place today because of the nobility and generosity of the teaching profession. As you celebrate this day, I wish you all a Happy World Teachers’ Day!”
