Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIAN filmmakers and producers of the country’s number one film, ‘The White Line’, will be rubbing shoulders with the crème de la crème of movies in this year’s Academy Awards.
Currently, the film is running against heavyweight movies such as ‘The Addams Family 2’, ‘The Matrix Resurrection’, ‘Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain’, and ‘The Harder They Fall’ for best picture.
The dramatic film, which tells the story of a forbidden love affair at the height of apartheid, is one of 276 feature films in the running for an Oscar.
Movie director Desiree Kahikapo-Meifret says they did not submit the film in the international category, but only in the general category for best picture, best actress, and best director, among others.
“On 8 February they will announce the films nominated in the various categories. We are not in the category international films usually submit in, which is what everybody thinks.”
To get to this level of recognition, the ‘White Line’ had to run screenings in at least six of the United States metropolitans, as well as meet a number of requirements.
The Academy Awards will take place in March this year. Meanwhile, the film will be taken to Canada, where it will be screened as part of the online Toronto Black Film Fest from 16 to 21 February. -unWrap.online
