Three-car crash kills man, injures four on New Year’s Day

Africa-Press – Namibia. NEW Year’s Day ended on a terrible note when a man died and four people were injured in a three-car crash on the B2 road between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay Saturday evening.

A stationary Toyota Corolla in the middle of the road about three kilometres north of Langstrand reportedly caused the driver of a Mercedes-Benz coming over a hill to swerve to avoid crashing into the Corolla. An SUV, also swerving, reportedly hit the Mercedes and then slammed into the Corolla.

According to the Namibian Marshall Rangers, the seriously injured driver of the Corolla was lying next to the car after an unidentified person pulled him from the wreck. He was rushed to Swakopmund by emergency services that soon arrived at the scene but he succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

“We urged people to never remove or move an injured person unless it is life-threatening, such as a burning car,” Sean Naude of the NMR said.

The driver of the SUV reportedly fled from the scene after the crash, while the four injured passengers were taken to hospitals in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. None of the four occupants of the Mercedes were injured.
