Three feared drowned at Oanob Dam

Africa-Press – Namibia. THREE young men are suspected to have drowned at Oanob Dam, seven kilometres outside Rehoboth, on Saturday.

Deputy commissioner Eric Clay of the Namibian Police on Sunday said the three were part of a group of nine young men who went on a boat cruise on the dam.

Clay said the boat is suspected to have taken on water and sunk. Six of the men swam to safety, but the three did not make it to the shore.

He said besides the police search team, a fisheries observer team would be called in to help with the investigation to determine whether the boat sank due to overloading, or it was faulty.

According to him, preliminary investigations are unable to determine the cause of the accident, as the boat has not yet been retrieved.

No names can be released, as no bodies have been found yet.

“The police diving team is on the scene at Oanob Dam currently searching for the bodies. We suspect they have drowned, as the search has been on since Saturday and today is Sunday with no bodies found,” said Clay.
