Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Momentum Titans beat the Namibian Eagles by 34 runs in their 50 over match at the Wanderers field on Saturday.
The Titans were dismissed for 224 runs for nine wickets off their 50 overs, and although it was not a great total, it was enough as Namibia were all out for 190.
In the Titans’ innings, Jiveshan Pillay (8) and Gihahn Clote (11) were both dismissed early, but Theunis de Bruyn and Dean Elgar added 32 for the third wicket before the latter was out for 12.
Sbonelo Makhanya was out for 4, but Neil Brand joined De Bruyn and put on 69 runs for the fifth wicket, before De Bruyn was out for a top-score of 62 off 73 balls (1×6, 4×4).
Brand added 30, Dayyaan Galiem 36, and Corbin Bosch 38, as the visitors reached 224/9 off their 50 overs. JJ Smit was Namibia’s best bowler, taking three wickets for 27 runs, while Jan Frylinck took 2/46.
Namibia got off to a poor start as they lost their first three wickets for only 11 runs. Opener Zane Green added 18, but when Karl Birkenstock was out for 2, they had crashed to 54/5. Michael van Lingen and JJ Smit stemmed the rot with a 52-run partnership before the former was out for a classy 51 off 59 balls (5×4).
Smit and Jan Frylinck put on 65 for the seventh wicket to take the total to 171 before Frylinck was out for 21, and when Ruben Trumpelmann was out for 10, Namibia had slumped to 189/9.
Tail-enders Bernard Scholtz and Ben Shikongo were both dismissed for ducks, while JJ Smit remained not out on 68 off 80 balls (2×6, 3×4), as Namibia were all out for 190, to hand the Titans a comfortable win. Corbin Bosch (3/34) and Aya Gqamane (3/36) were the Titans’ best bowlers. The scorecard
