FORMER President Nangolo Mbumba has paid tribute to the late Dr. Mose Penaani Tjitendero, describing him as a visionary leader and intellectual whose legacy continues to shape Namibia’s governance, education and national identity, 20 years after his passing.
Speaking at Heroes’ Acre, Mbumba honoured Tjitendero as a hero of the Republic and a committed patriot who played a pivotal role in the country’s liberation struggle and post-independence development. He said Tjitendero’s contributions go beyond material legacy, emphasising that he helped secure Namibia’s freedom, independence and sense of identity.
Mbumba highlighted Tjitendero’s role in laying the foundation for Namibia’s governance architecture, noting that his work continues to influence the country’s institutions and development trajectory. He also underscored his commitment to education, describing him as a product of a broader African vision championed by leaders such as Haile Selassie, Kwame Nkrumah, Julius Nyerere, Kenneth Kaunda and Namibia’s Founding Father Sam Nujoma.
The former President further added that Tjitendero was among those who helped plan for Namibia’s independence through the United Nations Institute for Namibia (UNIN), contributing to the development of skilled human resources who would lead the country after independence.
He said Tjitendero’s legacy is rooted in the values, knowledge and leadership he imparted to future generations, adding that his life remains an enduring source of inspiration for Namibians.
Mbumba urged Namibians to honour Tjitendero’s memory by following his example and working towards unity, development and prosperity, stressing that his contributions will continue to resonate in the country’s history.
